Anchoring Emergence

As society and environment is forcibly changed from sea-level rise, how can the community of False Creek rebuild landscape integrity? More specifically, in what medium can the locals use the environment to build a stronger community? This studio centres on storytelling around the idea of hope. Situated in the year 2200, where might hope be found?

This artifact is found in a world where environmental stewardship and building community are the foundations of society. It is buoy tethered to a permanent anchor. This structure provides social and ecological infrastructure simultaneously. Keeping in mind our ecological footprint, the construction is based on renewable materials found in nature without the need for extensive harvesting and extraction. The people are not only creating a space for themselves to tether to, but stewarding an environment that supports a diverse ecosystem for marine life.
