Defining the Resilient City of The Future
As urban regions become increasingly densified, effective sustainable development will depend upon effective design. Our goal for a livable, equitable and resilient Vancouver in the year 2050 aims to meet the needs of a growing, densely urban population through nature-based solutions (NBS) which maximize ecosystem services (ESS). After looking at case studies from green cities such as Copenhagen, Oslo, and Portland, we’ve decided to implement successful NBS in the Central Valley Greenway. These NBS are meant to enhance three regulating services: regulation of water flows, moderation of extreme events, and pollination, and two cultural services: recreation and well-being (both mental and physical).
